About the site...

Welcome to the Pint of no Return!

This site was started in January of 2010 by a small group of homebrewers who became disenchanted and/or disenfranchised at another homebrewing message board. That message board, ironically, is also a splinter group of an even larger homebrewing message board, and was started for similar reasons. We wanted a place to discuss brewing that was free of certain obnoxious admins and members who had to showcase their condescension in every thread they participated in. The final straw came when longtime members, who had done a lot to help grow the site, were "de facto banned" after complaining about the operation of hidden forums, where admins and privileged members engaged in backroom politics to encourage others to ignore certain members. With the exception of the aforementioned group, the vast majority of members on that site are great people and hopefully they will become members of this site as well.

The goal of this site is to create a small, yet healthy community of homebrewers who love to talk about brewing, beer, and anything else. There is no censorship here, so feel free to post anything you like!

lol, you weren't banned, none of you were. You turned yourselves into drama queens and then into outcasts. It was one of the weirdest things I've ever seen go down on the internet. Enjoy your new forum, it looks good, I'll stop by regularly. Cheers!

Not sure how you think it was anyone else's fault other than yours that things turned out the way they did. You had some legit questions and then those questions were answered and you didn't like the answers you got so you made drama.

The site does look cool, hope things are well with all of you!

That's one way to put it, but the bottom line is that the way you were operating the private forums was not going to be acceptable. Add to that the ever creeping sentiment towards censorship of HBT criticism.

I really hate you left x, enjoyed your company immensely, but I understand if you have no tolerance for a private forum. There was a venting about Tank thread, I regret it, and I put a stop to it once I got an outside perspective. The private forum had been at HBC since the site started, not to discuss if we could start banning or deleting, but to discuss the more intricate parts of what we should and shouldn't consider trolling, how posts should be moved/merged and the likes. Anyway, I wouldn't have signed up and started posting here but I saw two threads that either attacked HBC (this one that basically states this board started because HBC banned members which is bullshit) or personally attacked me, by name, and I don't have the self-control to not respond/defend.

I regret the whole schizm, but it wasn't the existance of a private forum that was my issue. It was the fact that there was a double standard where it wasn't just administration issues being dealt with, but personnel issues, with only one side of the story represented from what I could see. Not much different from the unwritten HBT policy of banning a member as a way of silencing them - the mods have spoken. And the sentiment I saw from the long time members was 'too bad, that's the way we roll here'. Which is fine, but it's not for me. So I bugged out, which you can call drama, but in the end, I would have gotten really ugly, so it was best to make things short and sweet.

Understood completely, man. Just hope there's no bitterness towards me. Cheers. This place may grow into something cool and its gonna be impossible to not have what seems to be a "faction" as we were being called between the people who are here and real active right now. I'll be interested to see how it handles that level of forumness.

It's hilarious how you act like you are so above "internet drama" when your departure from HBT put our exodus to shame. I guess your memory of things change when you are on the other side of the fence.

And you'll notice that I was referring to "de facto" banning. Putting people on ignore, asking others directly to leave the site, and encouraging other members to avoid certain topics from certain members is no better than outright banning them, in my opinion. About being an "outcast" that's a pretty dishonest word, considering I got along fine with most of the regular posters, just not with the majority of the mods and privileged members.

Anyway, I wouldn't have signed up and started posting here but I saw two threads that either attacked HBC (this one that basically states this board started because HBC banned members which is bullshit) or personally attacked me, by name, and I don't have the self-control to not respond/defend

I see, yet it was ridiculous that I had a problem with the fact that HBC's version of Revvy (aka Evan) and Flyangler had their own place to attack me, where I couldn't read nor respond to their comments. I hope the irony isn't wasted here.

It seems like the only reason you're here is to try and convince mr x to come back to the site, which is fine, but at least be honest about it. I can't see any other reason why you would care what the rest of us think at this point. You didn't care when we left, so why would you care what we say here?

I'll stop by regularly. Cheers!

I'm sure you've been stopping by regularly. I'm sure there's a topic about this somewhere on your site, I just can't imagine where. :D
